April is Donate Life Month

New Milestone
Nearly 14 MILLION Californians have now signed up to save the lives of others as organ and tissue donors.  We’re up nearly  a million registered donors since this time last year.

While that’s exciting, we continue to be the largest donor organ and tissue donor registry in the world, California also has the most people waiting, the longest wait time for a transplant, and the most people who die waiting.

With 2,205 San Diegans on the US Organ Waiting list, we still have much work to do. Which leads to our next celebration:

April is National Donate Life Month
This week kicks off Donate Life Month and a number of exciting activities through April.  Please check out what’s planned at lifesharing.org/events.  You’re welcome to join us at any and all events. Check the calendar often because we continue to add new things that would benefit from your presence.

Special Partners
This month also allows us to recognize our special partners including our Volunteers, colleagues at the 26 hospitals in San Diego & Imperial Counties, our Funeral Partners, Medical Examiners Office, media, DMV (Yay, DMV – 95% of the  registered donors signed up through the DMV).  And none of this would be possible without our Donors and their families.

As you move through the month – notice the HUGE banner on the side of the Sharp Parking structures in Kearny Mesa and La Mesa (pictured on our web home page).  Notice the Donate Life Blue & Green lights honoring donors nightly at Sharp Memorial and UC San Diego Health in Hillcrest.  Please wear Donate Life Blue & Green colors on April 21 to spark awareness.  Join us April 29th for the the Donate Life Walk in Fullerton – the largest walk in the nation. And enjoy the Donate Life Flags waving at four Sharp hospitals, UC San Diego Health, Tri-City, Palomar Health and others.
